FIRST YEAR BRUINS CCM HEAVY KNIT. ONE YEAR STYLE.
1985-86 ROAD BLACK CCM KNIT - BOSTON BRUINS
# 11 STEVE KASPER GAME WORN JERSEY
This jersey is from the 1985-86 season in which the Boston Bruins introduced for the first time a heavy knit material by CCM. The jersey is hammered with wear including upwards of 30 team repairs. The chest measures to a size 48. Which is correct for the diminutive Kasper who stood 5'8" and 175 lbs.
The classic vintage Boston Bruin style is so pronounced on this jersey with the Bear patches on the shoulders, V-neck and the smaller spoked-B crest. The crest would be slightly bigger for the following season. And the following season (1986-87) would be the last year that CCM made this heavy knit jersey for the Bruins with the exception of certain players, ie Cam Neely and Jay Miller who made a special request for the heavy knit as they held up better than the air-knits.
This jersey was worn by # 11 Steve Kasper who had a very successful career with the Bruins from 1980 - January 1988. He was a very strong Center in both the defensive and offensive zones. He scored over 20 goals with the Bruins in four different seasons while shadowing the greats of the game including Wayne Gretzky. He ended up becoming a teammate of Gretzky's in the 1988 trade that sent him to the Los Angeles Kings for Bobby Carpenter to complete the transaction that sent Jay Miller to the LA Kings.
The jersey is perfectly photo matched to the black marks on his right sleeve in the "11" and just below it.
The CCM heavy knit jerseys from the 1985-87 period in Bruins history are very hard to come by and evoke that classic Bruins look of a by gone era.
